Robust Business Negotiations, Expected to Generate Over 3.6 Billion Baht
The CHANGAN Sourcing Day, held at Rama Gardens Hotel in Bangkok on June 5th, attracted over 233 Thai automotive parts manufacturers. Among them, 78 companies were selected to participate in business negotiations with Changan,covering a wide range of essential components, from exterior and interior parts to electrical systems and suspension.
Mr. Narit Therdsteerasukdi, Secretary-General of the BOI, revealed that the negotiations were fruitful, with an expected value of over 3.6 billion baht for domestic parts purchases. This positive sign demonstrates the potential of Thai manufacturers to meet the high standards of the EV industry.
Changan’s Full-Throttle Investment in Thailand, Targeting 100,000 EVs per Year
Changan is a major player in the global automotive industry, with over 2.55 million units sold worldwide in 2023 and a research and development team of over 18,000 people. The company has announced an investment of over 10 billion baht to build its first right-hand drive EV manufacturing plant outside of China, located in Rayong province. The plant aims to produce 100,000 vehicles per year and will begin operations in early 2025.
This investment not only creates over 2,000 jobs but also reinforces foreign investors’ confidence in Thailand’s potential as a regional EV manufacturing hub.
BOI Accelerates Thai EV Supply Chain to Global Standards
The BOI plays a crucial role in supporting EV industry investment. It has organized Sourcing Day events with several leading EV manufacturers, resulting in over 42 billion baht in domestic parts purchases.
Mr. Narit stated, “CHANGAN Sourcing Day is another important step in strengthening Thailand’s EV supply chain.Changan aims to use 60% local parts in the first year and increase this to 80% within five years. This is a great opportunity for Thai businesses to learn new technologies and enhance their capabilities to enter the global market.”
