The Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), Thailand’s digital business regulatory body, has highlighted its crucial role in overseeing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the country. The agency aims to foster economic growth, mitigate risks, and unlock new business opportunities through responsible AI adoption.

Dr. Sak Segkhoonthod, Senior Advisor at ETDA, emphasized, “AI is revolutionizing work processes and creating new avenues for driving Thailand’s economy. However, unchecked AI utilization can lead to various risks. ETDA is committed to promoting ethical AI governance to maximize benefits for the nation.”

AI Governance Guideline: A Framework for Thai Businesses

ETDA has developed the AI Governance Guideline for Executives, a pioneering framework in Thailand. This guideline equips executives and business owners with essential knowledge for safely and effectively integrating AI into their organizations.

The guideline covers three key areas:

  1. AI Governance Structure: Establishing a robust framework and processes for AI governance within the organization.
  2. AI Strategy: Defining strategic goals and objectives for AI implementation, aligning them with broader organizational goals.
  3. AI Operation Governance: Overseeing all AI-related operations, from data preparation and development to real-world deployment.

Dr. Sak acknowledged the challenge of striking a balance between encouraging AI innovation and minimizing potential risks. ETDA is actively collaborating with experts and organizations to develop AI governance frameworks that align with international standards.

ETDA plans to develop additional AI guidelines covering areas like Generative AI, AI Roadmaps, AI Procurement, and AI Job Redesign. Furthermore, the agency intends to establish criteria for evaluating Large Language Models (LLMs), a fundamental technology behind Generative AI.
