VIETNAM | The Michelin Guide has officially announced the results of the ‘Michelin Guide Hanoi | Ho Chi Minh City | Danang’ for 2024, featuring a total of 164 selected restaurants. These include 7 ‘1 Michelin Star’ restaurants, 58 ‘Bib Gourmand’ awardees, and 99 other recommended establishments. This year marks the first inclusion of Danang in the rankings, and the first-ever ‘MICHELIN Green Star’ award for sustainability in Vietnam.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, commented on the addition of Danang, saying, “The three cities of Vietnam, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Danang, each have their own unique identity. The Vietnamese culinary scene is full of vibrancy, passion, and creativity that constantly surprises the market. With more and more renowned chefs opening restaurants in Vietnam, coupled with the growing number of young Vietnamese chefs and an expanding customer base, Vietnam is becoming an increasingly attractive destination on the global culinary map, one that should be closely watched.”

In the 2024 selection, all previous 1 Michelin Star restaurants, including Gia, Hibana by Koki, Tầm Vị, and Ănăn Saigon, maintained their excellence. Two new restaurants joined the ranks: Akuna [Ho Chi Minh City], a creative European restaurant with Vietnamese influences and wine pairings, and La Maison 1888 [Danang], offering 5 or 7-course menus featuring premium Vietnamese, French, and Japanese ingredients. Additionally, The Royal Pavilion [Ho Chi Minh City],serving à la carte and set menus while preserving the legacy of Cantonese cuisine (with dim sum available only for lunch), was promoted from MICHELIN Selected to a One Michelin Star.

The increase in ‘Bib Gourmand’ awards reflects the diversity and quality of Vietnamese cuisine, particularly in Danang, which boasts 16 of the 29 new awardees this year. The ‘Bib Gourmand’ recognizes restaurants offering delicious food at value prices, a favorite among food enthusiasts. Notable Danang awardees include Bé Ni 2, a friendly and lively 24/7 eatery serving rice dishes during the day and seafood at night, Indian Aroma, featuring signature dishes from the chef’s native India, and Mỳ Quảng Sứa Hồng Vân, a roadside eatery renowned for its mì quảng noodles.
