TAT Joins Forces with GMS to Strengthen Thailand’s Position as Tourism Leader

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is in full swing, hosting the Thailand Travel Mart Plus (TTM+) 2024 from June 5-7 in Phang Nga province. The event has united 15 organizations from the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) countries to promote tourism collaboration, with the ambitious goal of attracting over 95 million international tourists to the region by 2025.

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor, revealed that the government is committed to positioning Thailand as a world-class tourism hub (Tourism Hub of ASEAN). This involves collaborating with neighboring countries, particularly the GMS group (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Southern China), to develop and promote tourism growth collectively.

TTM+ 2024: A Global Stage for Collaboration

TTM+ 2024 serves as a crucial global platform where over 430 Thai tourism operators can connect and conduct business with more than 425 buyers from 50 countries worldwide. High-ranking officials from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar are also participating to discuss opportunities for boosting travel connectivity between countries, as well as joint marketing and promotional activities.

Thailand: A Captivating Destination

Prior to TTM+, representatives from GMS countries experienced Thailand’s diverse tourism offerings in Ban Bang Rong community and Phuket Old Town, including sports, health, culinary, entertainment, and marine tourism. This firsthand experience aims to showcase Thailand’s allure as a destination that caters to all interests and preferences.

GMS Collaboration: The Key to Success

Ms. Thapanee emphasized, “TAT’s foreign policy is crucial for Thailand’s tourism marketing and promotion. Beyond fostering positive relationships, it opens doors for Thai entrepreneurs to expand their businesses into new markets.”

TAT also prioritizes integrating cooperation with domestic partners to encourage investment, enhance products and services, and elevate Thailand’s tourism industry to compete sustainably.

A Bright Future for GMS Tourism

With strong collaboration among GMS countries and the resounding success of TTM+ 2024, the future of tourism in the region looks promising. It is poised to welcome tourists from all corners of the globe and generate substantial revenue for the participating nations.
