The Thai government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, is propelling the “Korat Model” to elevate Nakhon Ratchasima province into a “Digital Metropolis of the Future.” This initiative aims to establish the province as a Digital Economy Hub for the region, complete with advanced digital infrastructure and a cutting-edge technological ecosystem. The ultimate goal is to enhance the quality of life for Thai citizens and drive the nation’s digital economy.

Nakhon Ratchasima: The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) hosted a major seminar titled “Digital Korat: The Future Starts Now.” The event was presided over by the Prime Minister, along with the Minister of MDES, high-ranking officials, and over 2,000 participants at Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin emphasized the Thailand Vision “IGNITE THAILAND: Empowering Unity, Thailand Must Be One,” with a key objective of becoming a Digital Economy Hub in the region. The MDES plays a pivotal role in driving this policy forward.

“The government prioritizes the use of digital technology to enhance government efficiency and improve the quality of life for our citizens,” the Prime Minister stated. “We aim to create a digital government that caters to the needs of the people and promotes the integration of digital technology into everyday life to create jobs, generate income, and elevate the quality of life for all Thais.”

Minister of MDES, Prasert Chantruangthong, highlighted Nakhon Ratchasima’s potential as the second-largest province in the country and a gateway to the northeastern region. Its readiness in various aspects makes it an ideal model for a regional digital city.

The “Korat Model” will focus on four key dimensions of development:

  1. Digital for Equality (Social)
  2. Digital for Security (Security)
  3. Digital for Better Opportunities (Economic)
  4. Digital for Sustainable Development (Government Operations)

To achieve these goals, the MDES has signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with various sectors in Nakhon Ratchasima, covering crucial areas:

  • Development of electronic document systems, reduction of paper usage, and promotion of digital technology in healthcare services.
  • Collaboration on digital workforce development with educational institutions in the province.
  • Development of digital infrastructure to transform Korat into a Smart City and Logistic Hub.

In addition, the event featured workshops and seminars to educate the public, students, and government officials about digital technology. There was also an exhibition showcasing the MDES’s missions, academic programs in digital fields, and technological innovations from the private sector.

The “Korat Model” is not only a blueprint for a digital metropolis in Thailand but also a significant step in propelling the country toward becoming a regional Digital Economy Hub. This initiative promises to have a positive impact on the economy and the overall well-being of the Thai people.
