Typhoon Ampil Situation
Typhoon Ampil has been classified as a “very strong” typhoon with maximum wind speeds of 45 meters per second and gusts up to 60 meters per second (216 kph/134 mph). It is expected to approach Tokyo on the evening of Friday, August 18th, and continue northward, affecting the Kanto and Tohoku regions by the morning of Saturday, August 19th.
Japan’s Preparedness
Japanese authorities have ordered the evacuation of thousands of people in high-risk areas and canceled hundreds of flights in the Tokyo area. Additionally, Shinkansen bullet train services between Tokyo and Nagoya have been suspended for the entire day.
