Nurturing Water Conservation in Thai Youth
Ms. Piengchit Sriprasart, SVP People & Culture and Corporate Affairs, Thailand & Indochina, Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand), emphasized the critical role of water resources in Suntory’s business operations. “We prioritize water and environmental conservation through sustainability goals, including educating youth about water conservation, reducing water usage in production, and collaborating with supply chain partners to enhance water-use efficiency,” she stated.
The “Mizuiku Water Model School” contest, under the “One Suntory Mizuiku Program,” encourages schools to develop and implement water conservation plans within their premises and surrounding communities. A total of 30 schools from Chonburi and Rayong provinces participated in this year’s contest.
Rigorous Selection Process
Participating schools received 10,000 baht each to execute their water conservation projects, focusing on four key areas:policy, stakeholder engagement, infrastructure development, and community outreach.
A distinguished committee, comprising representatives from both companies, environmental experts, and government officials, evaluated the 30 schools through online presentations and on-site visits. The top-performing school from each province earned the opportunity to visit Japan.
Winning Schools
- Chonburi Province: Petch Pittayakom School stood out with its “Mizuiku Water and Environment Conservation Unit” project, integrating environmental education into the curriculum. The school established a dedicated unit to identify and address environmental issues within the school and community.
- Rayong Province: Chumchon Borisat Namtan Tawanaok School presented a holistic learning management project aimed at becoming a mid-level Eco School. They focused on infrastructure improvements and incorporating water conservation knowledge into their curriculum.
