Pol. Maj. Gen. Kongkrid Lertsittikul, Commander of the Highway Police Division, revealed that the Highway Police have prepared for the festive season by deploying personnel, equipment, and vehicles. They have also conducted rehearsals, especially for opening special lanes in congested areas, incorporating lessons learned from last year to improve efficiency. Additionally, they have arranged free accommodation for the public at 205 Highway Police service units nationwide.
Drivers experiencing fatigue can contact these units for immediate lodging. During the festive period, a traffic management center supervised by a Deputy Commander has been set up. Utilizing an IT system and CCTV cameras, the center analyzes traffic flow to maintain a comprehensive overview and direct units to take appropriate action, ensuring smooth traffic flow and emphasizing proactive problem-solving before congestion occurs.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Surached Bundit, Commander of the Traffic Police Division, stated that during the New Year festival, a large number of people travel back to their hometowns using both private cars and public transportation. This leads to heavy traffic and an increased risk of accidents. The Traffic Police Division, responsible for traffic management in Bangkok, has prepared to facilitate traffic flow by deploying support at public transport stations and congested areas.
Moreover, the Traffic Police Division has launched the “Pre-Use Vehicle Inspection Project, Safe Along the Route” to inspect 10 essential vehicle components for long-distance driving. This service is offered free of charge to the public at the Engine Mechanics Unit, Inspection Division 5, Traffic Police Division, Prasan Ratchakit Building, Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Lat Yao Subdistrict, Chatuchak District, Bangkok.
