Bangkok – AIS, Thailand’s leading digital service provider, revealed a significant surge in data usage across its mobile and fixed broadband networks during the New Year 2025 holidays. The company reported a fivefold increase in 5G traffic compared to the previous year, attributing the growth to nationwide New Year festivities, increased tourism, and people returning to their hometowns. Facebook dominated as the most popular social media platform for New Year’s greetings.

With numerous countdown events taking place across the country and a surge in both domestic and international tourists, data consumption soared. Bangkok recorded the highest data traffic, while Facebook emerged as the preferred platform for sharing New Year wishes.
Pratthana Leelapanang, Chief Consumer Business Officer of AIS, stated, “AIS had fully prepared its network capabilities to ensure seamless connectivity, enabling customers to upload, post, and share their greetings and happiness without interruption.”

- Top countdown event locations in Bangkok with the highest data usage on December 31, 2024, included: Chao Phraya River piers and routes, CentralWorld, ICONSIAM, Wonder World, and Taksin Bridge.
- Top countdown event locations outside Bangkok with the highest data usage on December 31, 2024, were: Pattaya Beach, Khao Lam Road (Bang Saen Beach), Samila Beach (Songkhla), Chang Arena (Buriram), and Central Hatyai (Songkhla).
- Most popular social media platforms during the holiday period (December 28-31, 2024): Facebook, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and LINE.
- Peak mobile and fixed broadband usage on New Year’s Eve (December 31, 2024): 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM.
- Top 5 provinces with the highest mobile data usage during the holiday period (December 28-31, 2024): Bangkok, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai, Kanchanaburi, and Chonburi.
- Top 5 provinces with the highest fixed broadband usage during the holiday period (December 28-31, 2024): Bangkok, Nonthaburi, Chonburi, Pathum Thani, and Samut Prakan.
Furthermore, AIS reported a significant increase in streaming on AIS PLAY during the holiday period. The most popular content categories were Movies & Series, Kids & Family, and Entertainment, reflecting a trend of families spending more time celebrating at home. Customers also actively redeemed AIS Points for various privileges, such as a chance to win a Mini electric car, internet packages, and discounts on food and beverages from popular brands.
