True Redefines Home Entertainment with AI-Powered Smart Living Hub

In a strategic move to dominate the digital home landscape, True Corporation has launched its next-generation TrueID TV Gen3. Officially released in early 2025, the device transcends the traditional confines of a streaming box, repositioning itself as an all-in-one “Smart Living Hub” powered by artificial intelligence. This launch not only marks a significant product evolution but also underscores True‘s broader corporate strategy of fostering in-house innovation to create distinct, value-added experiences in an increasingly competitive market.

The new device is the culmination of a visionary project aimed at transforming the largest screen in the home into a dynamic, interactive center for family life. By integrating a powerful new AI chipset, a built-in webcam, microphone, and speakers, the TrueID TV Gen3 offers functionalities far beyond passive content consumption. Users can now engage in motion-controlled gaming, follow interactive fitness routines, enjoy karaoke, and leverage Google Assistant, all through a single, unified platform. This ambitious pivot reflects a deep understanding of shifting consumer behaviors and a strategic foresight to consolidate disparate home activities—entertainment, communication, fitness, and gaming—into one seamless ecosystem.

The driving force behind this innovation is a deeply ingrained philosophy at True: that groundbreaking ideas are born from a culture of care and employee empowerment. This launch is a testament to the success of initiatives like the True Innovation Center, which has cultivated over 1,573 employee innovators and secured 112 patents since its inception in 2018, demonstrating a potent model for corporate innovation in the digital age.

The Innovator’s Journey: From Telecom Engineer to Product Visionary

At the heart of the TrueID TV Gen3’s creation is Tanate Wichienprakan, Senior Leader of Technical Project Delivery at True Digital Group and the Product Owner for the device. His journey is a compelling narrative of professional evolution and the power of a mindset shift. With over 25 years of experience as a telecommunications engineer specializing in mobile networks, Tanate’s career was rooted in the complex, behind-the-scenes world of system operations.

Four years ago, he made a pivotal decision to transition into Product Management at True Digital, a move he describes as stepping beyond his comfort zone. This change reoriented his entire professional perspective, moving from system-focused processes to a deeply user-centric approach to technology design. “In the past, I followed processes,” Tanate reflected. “But stepping into a role where I could think and create something new, and more importantly, seeing that what was developed truly resonates with customers has made the work both enjoyable and deeply rewarding.”

His inspiration for the Gen3 box came from a simple yet profound observation of modern family life. He saw households juggling a myriad of separate devices: TVs for streaming, smartphones for communication, smart speakers for assistance, dedicated game consoles, and fitness apps. This fragmented experience sparked a crucial question: What if the TV, the largest and most communal screen in the home, could do more? This question led to the product’s core mission. “Our goal was to transform the TrueID TV box from a content streaming device into a Smart Living Hub, a central command center for all family activities, all in one place,” Tanate explained.

A Culture of Innovation: True’s Strategic Edge

The development of the TrueID TV Gen3 is not an isolated success but a direct result of True’s sustained investment in a corporate-wide culture of innovation. Since its establishment in 2018, the True Innovation Center has served as an incubator for employee-driven ideas, empowering individuals from all departments to become agents of change. The company’s belief that “anyone can be an innovator” is backed by tangible results, including an impressive portfolio of 112 registered patents and petty patents developed by its own people.

Initiatives like the True Innovation Awards provide a formal platform for employees to pitch concepts that benefit customers, the company, and society. This framework reinforces a core tenet of the company’s DNA: “genuine innovation isn’t just about cutting-edge technology. It’s about the care embedded in the DNA of every True employee.”

Tanate Wichienprakan’s success story is a prime example of this philosophy in action. Despite not having a traditional tech-product background, his passion for continuous learning and his ability to empathize with user needs enabled him to spearhead a project of this magnitude. His journey exemplifies how empowering employees and fostering an environment of creative freedom can lead to market-defining products.

The Blueprint for Success: Agile Development and Cross-Functional Synergy

Bringing such a complex and multifaceted product to market in just over six months required a sophisticated and highly coordinated development process. The project’s success was built on the synergy of three core, cross-functional teams working in lockstep.

  1. Software and Firmware Engineering Team: This team laid the technical groundwork, customizing the Android TV 14 operating system and developing the essential drivers to support the new, advanced hardware, ensuring a stable and future-proof platform.
  2. Application and Content Partner Team: Responsible for building the user-facing experience, this team sourced and collaborated with external partners to co-develop the unique applications, including the innovative fitness and motion-detection games that set the device apart.
  3. Quality Assurance Team: This team was tasked with ensuring excellence at every level, from hardware stability and performance to the end-to-end user experience, rigorously testing the product in real-world scenarios.

As Product Owner, Tanate was the linchpin, responsible for guiding the product’s vision, defining the feature roadmap, and ensuring all teams—both local and international—were aligned toward the common goal. The primary challenge was managing this intricate web of collaboration. “The biggest challenge was coordinating across multiple teams both local and international, including external partners,” Tanate shared. “We adopted an Agile approach, working in sprints and collaborating continuously through online platforms.” This modern, iterative methodology was critical for navigating the complexities of the project and ensuring a rapid yet robust development cycle.

Beyond Technology: Measuring Success in Human Connection

While the technical achievements of the TrueID TV Gen3 are significant, for Tanate and his team, the ultimate measure of success lies in its real-world impact on families. After the product launched, the team diligently monitored customer feedback through social media channels, analyzing reviews and comments to understand how the device was being integrated into people’s daily lives. These insights are now being fed back into the development cycle for future iterations, creating a continuous loop of improvement.

The most gratifying feedback reaffirmed the team’s core intention. “What made me proud was seeing our intention come to life,” Tanate said. “We designed TrueID TV Gen 3 to strengthen connections within the household, and that’s exactly what happened.” He shared powerful anecdotes that brought this vision to life: “We saw elderly family members playing motion-based games with their grandchildren on the big screen using gestures instead of a joystick. It created moments of joy between generations. That’s when technology becomes more than just convenience. It becomes meaningful.”

From a strategic business perspective, the TrueID TV Gen3 is engineered to be a cornerstone of True’s digital ecosystem. Its design ensures seamless integration with a wide array of True services, enhancing customer loyalty and lifetime value. Furthermore, the platform is “future-ready,” built as a foundation for continuous innovation that will allow True to maintain its competitive edge and stand out distinctly in the market.

Reflecting on the entire process, Tanate offers a philosophy that is both humble and profound, encapsulating the spirit of innovation at True. “Innovation doesn’t have to begin with something grand or perfect,” he concluded. “It can start from something small or something as simple as care and grow from there, gather ideas and build momentum. And gradually, you’ll reach something much bigger.”
