DE and DEPA Join Forces to Elevate Sikhio to Smart City

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) and the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) have officially launched the “SIKHIO SMART LIVING” project in Sikhio Municipality. The project aims to enhance the quality of life for residents by integrating digital technology into safety measures, public services, and urban data management.

Mr. Prasert Chanthararuangthong, Minister of DE, emphasized that promoting smart city development is a key component of the Mega Program to transform Thailand, aligning with the first engine of growth: enhancing digital capabilities to strengthen the nation’s competitiveness.

Under the Ministry’s operational policy, “The Growth Engine of Thailand,” the goal is to create a livable, modern society with economic growth distributed across regions. DEPA, as the lead agency, collaborates with local partners to drive smart city projects nationwide with the participation of citizens, educational institutions, government agencies, and the private sector.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuttapon Nimmanphatcharin, President of DEPA, added, “Sikhio has already been certified as a smart city promotion zone. This project is a significant step in utilizing technology to address challenges faced by residents in terms of safety, access to public services, and efficient city management.”

“The DE Ministry, through DEPA, has consistently promoted smart city development in Thailand. Currently, 36 cities across 25 provinces have been certified as smart cities. The government aims to increase this number to at least 105 livable smart cities by 2027, with an estimated economic value of over 10 billion baht.”

Three Core Dimensions of SIKHIO SMART LIVING:

  • Safety: Upgrading CCTV systems with intelligent software capable of detecting abnormal movement, intrusions,suspicious objects, and analyzing images accurately.
  • Public Services: Establishing LINE OA channels for complaints and issue reporting, enabling direct, convenient,and fast communication between citizens and government agencies.
  • Urban Data Management: Creating a central platform for data collection and analysis to inform effective city planning and development.

Expected Impacts:

  • Reduced Crime Rates: Intelligent CCTV technology will deter crime and aid in tracking offenders.

The Future of Smart Cities in Thailand:

The SIKHIO SMART LIVING project marks the beginning of smart city development in Thailand. With 36 certified smart cities and a government goal of 105 by 2027, this initiative is projected to generate over 10 billion baht in economic value.

DEPA’s smart city project, officially known as the “Smart City Promotion Project,” aims to drive the development of smart cities in Thailand.
