BYD, the world’s leading electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, and Rêver Automotive, the official distributor of BYD vehicles in Thailand, have officially opened a new manufacturing plant in Thailand today.
The plant, located in the WHA Industrial Estate in Rayong province, covers an area of over 948,000 square meters and has a maximum production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year. It will produce right-hand drive (RHD) electric vehicles for the Thai market and export to other countries in Southeast Asia (ASEAN).

The opening of this plant is a significant step for BYD in expanding its business in the ASEAN region and supports the Thai government’s policy to make Thailand a regional hub for EV production.
“BYD has gained rapid recognition after entering the Thai market just two years ago, achieving eighteen consecutive months as the top seller in pure electric vehicle sales,” said Mr. Wang Chuanfu, Chairman and President of BYD Group.
“In the future, BYD plans to introduce more pure electric models and plug-in hybrid vehicles in Thailand. We will integrate local manufacturing excellence with BYD’s advanced new energy technology to further enhance Sino-Thai relations.”
This plant is BYD’s first electric vehicle manufacturing plant in Thailand and the largest in ASEAN.
The opening of this plant is expected to create more than 10,000 jobs and boost the Thai economy.
“The inauguration of BYD’s new manufacturing facility marks a significant step in the company’s commitment to serving Thai customers while simultaneously pursuing its global ambitions,” said Mr. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division at BYD Auto Industry Company Limited.
“Not only will it enable us to provide customers with local-made products of great quality, but also reinforce our stature as a global leader in the new energy vehicle industry. Importantly, the facility is expected to create numerous job opportunities. This influx of employment will support the development of a skilled workforce in the automotive and renewable energy sectors. Additionally, the facility’s presence will attract further investment and foster the growth of supporting industries, creating a ripple effect of economic benefits.”
BYD also delivered a BYD DOLPHIN, the company’s eight millionth new energy vehicle, to the Mae Fah Luang Foundation under Royal Patronage to support the foundation’s work in improving the quality of life of people in remote areas.
“In 2023, global sales of electric vehicles including PHEVs reached approximately 14.2 million units. We are confident that the EV market in Thailand will remain its strong growth trajectory,” said Mr. Pratarnwong Phornprapha, Chief Executive Officer of Rêver Group.
