Chonburi, Thailand – Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer and distributor of beverages and health supplements in Thailand, has launched the “Poa Rak Nam” (Cultivating Water Conservation) project, Frist year. The project brought together employee volunteers, government agencies, and the local community of Bothong District, Chonburi Province, to engage in activities aimed at restoring community forests and fostering understanding of water resource and environmental conservation.

The “Poa Rak Nam” project is part of Suntory’s commitment to sustainable business practices, reflecting its corporate values of “Growing for Good” and “Giving Back to Society.” This year, the company piloted the project in Chonburi Province, home to all three of Suntory’s factories in Thailand.
Mrs. Mathuvalee Stithyudhakarn, Regulatory Affairs and Corporate Affairs Director, Thailand and Indochina, Suntory Beverage & Food (Thailand) Co., Ltd., stated, “As a leader in the beverage and health supplement industry, Suntory is committed to enhancing the quality of life of Thai people while promoting sustainability for society and the environment. The ‘Poa Rak Nam’ project is another effort to conserve water resources and ecosystems by preserving community forests, which are the source of water.”
Activities within the “Poa Rak Nam” project included:
- Lectures on the importance of forests, sustainable agriculture, and the relationship between forests and water.
- Hands-on activities such as weeding, seedling propagation, and laying straw mulch.
- Donating a plant nursery to the community to promote seedling propagation and long-term reforestation.
“We believe that building understanding and awareness of natural resource conservation among employees and communities is a crucial foundation for environmental and social sustainability,” added Mrs. Mathuvalee.
Acting Sub Lt. Puttisit Chodsiriwarothai, Bothong Senior Assistant Chief District Officer, expressed his appreciation for Suntory’s commitment to natural resource conservation, which aligns with Chonburi Province’s policy of promoting economic growth alongside environmental protection.
Miss Shompoonoot Shanuan, the Village Headman of Ban Khun Chamnan, highlighted the significance of the project for the predominantly agricultural community, emphasizing the role of healthy forests in rainfall and climate regulation. She also shared the community’s vision of developing the forest area into a learning center and ecotourism destination.
The “Poa Rak Nam” project also involved teachers and students from Ban Khun Chamnan School, extending environmental awareness efforts to the younger generation.
Miss Sarinya Pisedrit, a teacher at Ban Khun Chamnan School, expressed her appreciation for the project’s hands-on activities, such as weeding and seedling propagation, which helped students understand the importance of maintaining ecological balance.
The “Poa Rak Nam” project exemplifies the private sector’s commitment to environmental conservation, a crucial mission requiring collaboration from all sectors to ensure a sustainable future.
