In a decisive move to protect the rights of consumers and uphold intellectual property laws, Thai Customs authorities successfully intercepted and seized more than 7,000 infringing Epson ink bottles imported into Thailand in two major seizures conducted in June 2025.

The seized items, confirmed as counterfeit and in violation of the registered trademarks of Seiko Epson Corporation (SEC), mark a significant step in Thailand’s fight against counterfeit goods. The success of this operation comes as a result of SEC’s ongoing collaboration and strong working relationship with Thai Customs. Supported by SEC’s support, Customs officials carried out effective ex-officio actions against importers, detaining entire shipments suspected to be in breach of trademark rights.

Following a thorough inspection and verification process, the counterfeit products were permanently confiscated. Legal proceedings are underway, with perpetrators expected to face appropriate charges under Thai law. All seized counterfeit ink bottles will be destroyed during the annual destruction ceremony held by the Thai government, underscoring Thailand’s zero-tolerance approach to counterfeit products and the importance of safeguarding the rights of consumers and legitimate businesses.

“These counterfeit ink bottles were made to resemble genuine Epson products, but they can cause harm to both printers and users,” said a spokesperson from Epson Southeast Asia. “Counterfeit ink may contain hazardous substances such as heavy metals and low-grade chemicals that can damage printers, produce poor print results and void product warranties. In addition to damaging consumer trust, counterfeit products undercut the work of honest Thai retailers and businesses who rely on the sale of genuine goods.”

Epson Southeast Asia continues to encourage Thai consumers to ensure the authenticity of purchased Epson ink bottles by sourcing only from authorised dealers and official online stores. Epson remains firmly committed to working closely with Thai Customs and other enforcement authorities to tackle counterfeit goods and protect our customers.
