The Travel Alliance, a consortium of eight leading Asia-Pacific (APAC) mobile operators, today announced the official launch of WanderJoy, positioning it as the world’s first cross-border rewards programme driven by telcos. Unveiled at the KDDI SUMMIT 2025 in Tokyo , the platform aims to strategically unify a fragmented travel market, offering millions of customers seamless access to a curated list of privileges and rewards across the region.
The launch of WanderJoy represents a significant strategic move by the Travel Alliance—comprising Singtel, AIS, Taiwan Mobile, GOMO Philippines, KDDI, Telkomsel, Optus, and HKT. This group collectively serves over 350 million customers in the region.
The initiative directly addresses persistent challenges identified in the APAC travel sector. According to the Asia Pacific Loyalty Programs Intelligence Report 2025, the regional traveller experience remains fragmented and inconsistent. Key pain points for travellers include:
- Disjointed rewards systems
- The inconvenience of frequent SIM-swapping
- Language barriers
- Limited access to benefits while abroad
While the Alliance members already provide extensive 5G connectivity and roaming services , WanderJoy is designed to “bridge the gaps” and establish a new benchmark for travel experiences. It consolidates privileges—such as premium airport experiences, entertainment, and dining—into a single, frictionless platform.
Beyond Connectivity: A New Telco Business Model
For the business community, the announcement signals a deliberate pivot from traditional telecommunications services to a more integrated, data-driven role as “travel enablers”.
Ms. Anna Yip, CEO of International Digital Services at Singtel and Chairperson of the Travel Alliance, emphasized this strategic shift. “The Travel Alliance members are moving beyond connectivity to becoming travel enablers—giving our customers a window into new experiences and making their trips smoother and more memorable,” she stated.

Yip highlighted the evolving role of telcos as more consumers rely on mobile devices for travel planning, booking, and navigation. “We’re evolving with them, using data and partnerships to guide, delight and inspire,” she added.
This collaboration is positioned as a foundation for future cross-industry growth. “By connecting telco data insights with partner networks in hospitality, retail, and transport, we’re creating opportunities for cross-industry innovation and growth,” Yip explained. She confirmed the Alliance will continue to expand this ecosystem to benefit its global customer base.
A Regional Perspective: The AIS and Thai Market
From a key regional partner perspective, the platform solves practical, on-the-ground issues for travellers.
Mr. Pratthana Leelapanang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of AIS, noted that WanderJoy was developed to overcome “limitations such as language barriers and fragmented rewards systems”. He stressed the platform meets the needs of modern travellers seeking convenience, value, and confidence when using mobile services overseas in markets like Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Australia.
For AIS customers, the integration is seamless. Users of myAIS app, Ready2Fly roaming, and the SIM2Fly travel SIM can access these cross-border rewards via a “Global Rewards” menu within their existing app.
Leelapanang concluded that this initiative solidifies AIS’s role as a regional leader, moving its service “beyond seamless connectivity to offer customers greater value, expanded privileges, and truly elevated travel experiences”.
The Growing WanderJoy Ecosystem
WanderJoy, which began a soft launch as an online platform in June 2025, is already supported by a growing ecosystem of major travel and lifestyle brands.
The latest partners brought on to enrich the customer journey include:
- DragonPass (Airport lounge access)
- Grab (Ride-hailing and delivery)
- KKday (Tours and experiences)
- Omio (Travel bookings)
- Trip.com (Travel bookings)
- Estée Lauder (Lifestyle and retail)
Customers can access these curated offers through their respective telco’s native apps, such as myAIS, My Singtel app, The Club (HKT), and others. The Travel Alliance states that the platform’s catalogue of rewards and partners will continue to grow, encouraging travellers to check their apps regularly for new offers.
