TRIS Rating has affirmed the issuer credit rating of Lanna Resources PLC (LANNA) at “A-“, while maintaining a “Stable” rating outlook. The action reflects LANNA’s strong balance sheet, cost-efficient Indonesian coal mining operations, and its position as a strategic subsidiary of Siam City Cement PLC (SCCC).
Strategic Ties to SCCC and Mining Operations
LANNA serves as a strategic subsidiary for SCCC, supplying approximately 20% to 25% of SCCC’s operational coal requirements. Although SCCC is steadily increasing its adoption of alternative energy sources under its decarbonization strategy, coal remains vital for cement production due to its reliability and high thermal efficiency. SCCC currently holds a 61.44% equity stake in LANNA.
The company’s stand-alone credit profile (SACP) remains supported by low cash mining costs of USD 24 to USD 26 per tonne. Efficient open-pit operations and favorable mine-to-port logistics enable LANNA to remain profitable across coal price cycles. Operations in Indonesia are managed through its subsidiaries, PT Lanna Harita Indonesia (55% stake) and PT Singlurus Pratama (65% stake), exporting primarily to India, Bangladesh, and South Korea.
Regulatory Changes and Financial Position
LANNA’s growth profile faces structural constraints from short reserve life and evolving Indonesian regulations. At the end of 2025, proven and probable reserves totaled 54.6 million tonnes, representing roughly 7 years of production. Indonesian production quotas were initially trimmed to 600 million tonnes from 790 million tonnes, resulting in lower allocation for miners. TRIS Rating projects LANNA’s sales volume to moderate to 7.35 million tonnes in 2026 and 6.7 million tonnes annually across 2027-2028.

The company maintains an exceptionally strong financial status to buffer against regulatory shifts and coal price normalization. As of March 2026, LANNA held THB 3.39 billion in cash and short-term investments against manageable debt obligations. Capital expenditure is forecasted at a conservative THB 300 million annually, with debt-to-EBITDA expected to remain below 1.5 times.
