Huawei, together with the Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), government leaders, academics, and telecommunications industry experts, convened at the 5G-Advanced x Mobile AI Forum to accelerate Thailand’s transition toward an AI-native mobile era. Held as part of the Huawei Digital & AI Summit 2026, the forum served as one of the country’s first dedicated platforms addressing the convergence of 5G-Advanced (5G-A) and Mobile AI. The collaborative effort aims to establish an AI-ready telecommunications ecosystem to support growing data demands, drive intelligent services, and strengthen Thailand’s position as a regional digital hub.
Strategic Spectrum Allocation and Collaborative Policy
As Thailand enters a new phase of digital transformation, the convergence of 5G-Advanced networks and Mobile AI is set to redefine connectivity and enterprise innovation. Preparing the country’s telecommunications infrastructure requires aligned planning between regulatory bodies and industry leaders to effectively handle exponential growth in AI-driven traffic.
To address these future capacity requirements, policy directions are shifting toward securing crucial spectrum resources and establishing evidence-based demand models. Mr. Saneh Saiwong, Principal Engineering Expert at the Office of the NBTC, highlighted the importance of securing future spectrum resources, particularly the 3500 MHz band, to accommodate rapidly growing AI-driven mobile traffic while encouraging sustainable investment in data center infrastructure and efficient energy utilization.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somphop Purivigraipong, Commissioner of the NBTC, emphasized that joint industry cooperation is essential for effective infrastructure planning. “No regulator alone can predict the future of AI traffic, and industry forecasts alone should not set the rules either. We want to work more closely with operators, vendors, and forums like this one, to build a shared, evidence-based view of where mobile AI demand is going,” he stated.
The Convergence of Connectivity and “Byte + Token” Economy
The integration of next-generation connectivity and intelligent computing is shaping a new digital economy powered by AI agents and intelligent services. Within this landscape, Huawei introduced its “Triple-A” framework for 5G-Advanced—comprising Amplified Downlink, Accelerated Uplink, and Assured Differentiation—designed to deliver guaranteed AI interactions and premium digital experiences across emerging applications such as AI live streaming, AI glasses, and AI-generated content (AIGC).
This technical evolution enables new commercial models that move beyond traditional data usage toward token-based monetization. Mr. Allen Tang, President of Wireless and Cloud Core Networks and Solutions at Huawei Technologies, noted, “As Thailand enters the 5G-Advanced era, the convergence of AI agents and next-generation networks powers a new ‘Byte + Token’ economy and redefines intelligent connectivity”.
Expanding on this economic shift, Mr. Woragarn Likhitdechasakdi, Chief Technology Officer, ICT MSSD, Huawei Technologies Thailand, explained how computing and telecommunications are merging. “The next generation of telecommunications is bringing connectivity and computing together, where 5G-Advanced works with Mobile AI and where the convergence of bytes and tokens unlocks new opportunities for service monetization and innovative business models,” he said. He added that the industry’s evolution from experience monetization toward AI-to-X services, and eventually token-based monetization enabled through the Model-as-a-Service (MaaS) business model, will accelerate the development of next-generation mobile networks and ICT infrastructure.
Long-Standing Industry Partnership and Future Outlook
The forum reinforces a history of collaboration between Huawei and the NBTC aimed at advancing Thailand’s ICT landscape. Previous joint initiatives include the publication of the Giga Thailand White Paper, the launch of the Thailand 5.5G Initiative, the development of AI telecom guidelines, and multiple nationwide 5G innovation projects.
Through shared commitments among government, industry, and academic partners, the initiative supports Thailand’s broader ambition to establish itself as a leading AI hub within ASEAN.
