This extensive network of electric charging stations is being installed on university campuses for convenient student and faculty use. The initiative emphasizes success, with plans to expand cooperation to another 30 universities throughout Thailand – a project potentially exceeding a value of 3,000 million baht. Additionally, development of a 72V platform system is underway to better support public organizations, motorcycle taxi services, and food and parcel delivery.
Driving Thailand’s Electric Vehicle Momentum
Thailand is increasingly focused on the electric vehicle (EV) industry. Government policies are propelling the sector forward as a key target for achieving a future-oriented economy. “Power Next is ready to respond to the policy to create leaps and bounds economic drivers,” said Mr. Phutthapong Somjai, Managing Director of Power Next Company Limited. This is especially pertinent as the country looks to achieve carbon neutrality targets and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Smart Electric Motorcycles and Convenient Battery Swapping
Power Next’s expertise lies in its “Smart Energy Swapping Platform.” This system offers modern, safety-certified battery stations for conveniently swapping depleted batteries for fresh ones. The platform is adaptable to diverse locations, including universities, industrial estates, tourist destinations, and various islands. It will serve the food and parcel delivery sectors as well as contribute to public transport through electric motorcycle taxis.
Collaboration for Wide-reaching Change
Panu Sitisan, Chief Executive Officer of Phayak Motor Co., Ltd., states that his company will collaborate with Power Next to produce high-safety swappable lithium batteries which satisfy UN R136 standards. Advanced charging cabinets and fast-charging technology are also integrated with True5G connectivity for intelligent data flow. Eight leading universities throughout Thailand, such as Chiang Mai University and Khon Kaen University’s Faculty of Engineering, are already embracing this sustainable transition.
Accessible Transition to Sustainable Transport
Through a university-focused MOU, the transition from gasoline to electric motorcycles is streamlined. Students and staff receive easy access to this battery-swapping network with rental prices starting at a mere 1,250 baht monthly. Additional benefits include comprehensive service packages (registration, insurance, maintenance, etc.). It’s designed to reduce student costs and support Thailand’s Green University agenda while decreasing harmful PM 2.5 air pollution caused by conventional petrol engines. Thailand’s substantial motorcycle population of 22 million makes this switch especially important.
The Future of Thai Electric Motorcycles
The success of this initiative highlights Power Next’s commitment to expanding Thailand’s EV ecosystem. Their in-progress 72V platform is explicitly designed with larger, more function-focused battery stations that are ideal for public sector use, motorcycle taxis, and delivery services.
