Tops Celebrates 28 Years, Unveils New Vision and T-O-P-S Strategy

Bangkok, ThailandCentral Food Retail, the operator of Tops supermarkets, is celebrating its 28th anniversary with a renewed vision and ambitious growth targets. The company aims to solidify its position as the largest supermarket network in Thailand, with a goal of reaching 1,000 stores by 2027.

The company reported robust performance in the first half of 2023, with an 11% increase in customer bills and a 10% rise in new customers. This success is attributed to its customer-centric approach and continuous innovation.

Mr. Stephane Coum, Chief Executive Officer of Central Food Retail Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to customer satisfaction, stating, “Our goal is to provide the best possible experience for our customers… earn the trust of consumers, and maintain our leadership in the Thai food retail industry.”

Key Strategies for Growth (T-O-P-S)

Central Food Retail is investing 1.6 billion baht in 2023 to drive business expansion and transformation into a ‘Truly World-Class Omni-Channel Lifestyle Food Retail.’ This strategy focuses on four pillars:

  • T – Truly World-Class: Offering a wide variety of high-quality products from around the world, including support for local SMEs and farmers. Tops curates a selection from over 210 globally recognized leading brands, all in one place. The company also prioritizes supporting small businesses and farmers to develop quality products, along with new marketing activities to promote products from various countries, including Thailand. Customers can discover a global shopping experience all in one place at Tops.
  • O – Omni-Channel: Providing a seamless and convenient shopping experience, whenever and wherever, through an exceptional omni-channel approach. Tops offers convenience and completeness across all channels, including brick-and-mortar stores operating nationwide in 46 provinces with over 700 locations. In parallel, the company is developing an omni-channel platform, connecting seamless shopping experiences through major delivery platforms in the country, Tops Online, personal shopper services, and even ordering through platforms like TikTok.
  • P – Pleasure: Enhancing the shopping experience through 14 product categories (14 Wonders), such as high-quality fruits and vegetables with a wide variety, exclusive snacks available only at Tops, and wines and spirits directly imported from renowned wineries worldwide. This also includes over 300 Own Brand and Exclusive items,available only at Tops. Additionally, Tops implements a strategy to impress customers with excellent service in the form of ‘Yes! Topster,’ delivering exceptional service standards and creating innovations by applying modern AI solutions to keep up with changing trends.
  • S – Sustainable: Driving the organization towards sustainability in all dimensions. Tops continues its “Small Acts Together” project, which is part of its strategy to achieve sustainability goals and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero.

Central Food Retail has set robust growth targets for the coming years. The company aims to achieve an average annual growth rate of 8% from 2023 to 2027. This expansion plan includes opening and renovating more than 100 stores per year. By the end of this year, Tops will have over 730 stores in operation across all formats, including 20 Tops Food Hall,over 150 Tops Supermarkets, over 520 Tops Daily, more than 10 Tops Wine Cellar, and 25 Matsuya stores.

New Mascot and Anniversary Promotion

To celebrate its 28th anniversary, Tops introduces ‘Topster,’ the brand’s first mascot. Additionally, the company offers a ‘Sticker, Stick and Save, Save as You Wish’ promotion to provide discounts to customers. Simply purchase products to the specified amount and receive instant discount stickers of up to 20%. Stick the stickers on desired products to receive the chosen discount immediately. Collect stickers easily by spending 300 baht/receipt to receive a 10% discount sticker, 800 baht/receipt for a 15% discount sticker, or 1,200 baht/receipt for a 20% discount sticker. This promotion is valid from August 21st to September 10th, 2023, at Tops Food Hall, Tops, and Tops Daily nationwide.
