The competition aimed to promote personal financial literacy among Thai youth and encourage awareness of the importance of having good financial skills from a young age. The event saw participation from over 100 students and individuals.
Ms. Puttawan Suphataranant, Corporate Communications Director of Sea (Thailand), stated that Sea (Thailand) recognizes the economic fluctuations and the necessity for young people to learn about finance early on. This will equip them with resilience to cope with future changes.
The “Wishlist” financial board game is a crucial tool in instilling financial knowledge and skills in youth. It simulates various financial situations such as income and expense management, savings, investments, and debt management.
Sea (Thailand) has collaborated with partners from various sectors to develop this board game and has distributed over 500 sets to schools and learning centers nationwide. Moreover, the board game is available in an online version, which has been downloaded over 1,100 times.
Challenges and Solutions
Ms. Puttawan mentioned the challenges in developing the financial board game. Designing a board game that is both fun and easy to understand while seamlessly integrating financial knowledge is not straightforward. Additionally, the lack of personnel with expertise in both board games and finance is another significant obstacle.
To address these challenges, Sea (Thailand) partnered with the Institute of Board Game for Learning to design and develop the board game. They also organized training for teachers to effectively utilize the board game as a teaching tool.
Goals and Future
Sea (Thailand) aims to raise awareness about the importance of personal financial literacy and promote the widespread use of board games as a tool for financial learning.
In the future, Sea (Thailand) plans to expand the board game competition nationwide and develop more diverse board games that cater to learners’ needs.
