The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) has proclaimed its vision to propel Thailand into an ASEAN Digital and AI Hub by 2027. Partnering with Huawei, it showcased capabilities at the “Huawei Thailand Digital & AI Summit 2025,” highlighting three core strategies: human resource development, infrastructure enhancement, and cybersecurity. Investment from public and private sectors is expected to exceed 500 billion baht. Huawei, in turn, unveiled its latest AI solutions, fully supporting Thailand’s ambitions.
Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand is accelerating its efforts to drive the transition to a digital era, with Artificial Intelligence (AI) as a key spearhead. Recently, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) reiterated its ambitious vision to elevate Thailand to become the “ASEAN Digital and AI Hub” by 2027. This vision was officially announced at the “Huawei Thailand Digital & AI Summit 2025,” held today, attended by over 2,000 participants, including government leaders, senior business executives, experts from leading global technology companies, and academics, to jointly discuss and shape the future direction of Thailand’s digital economy.
Government Champions AI to Drive the Nation – Targets 7.3% Digital Economy Growth
Mr. Prasert Jantararuangtong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, delivered a special keynote address, emphasizing that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital innovation will be the main pillars for driving sustainable national development in all dimensions and a crucial engine for building the country’s long-term competitiveness. “Thailand’s digital economy is experiencing rapid and continuous growth, projected to expand by 7.3% in 2025, aligning with the government’s ‘Growth Engine of Thailand’ policy.”
“This policy focuses on strengthening the nation’s digital capabilities in all aspects, from infrastructure development and promoting digital technology adoption in the business sector to fostering a safe and trustworthy digital society, including the development of highly skilled digital human resources to meet future labor market demands,” stated Mr. Prasert.
Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society added the importance of collaboration with the private sector, especially with global technology partners like Huawei. “A strong partnership with highly experienced and expert allies like Huawei will be instrumental in laying a solid technological foundation in digital and AI for all sectors of Thai society, from the general public and business sector to government agencies, enabling Thailand to move forward securely and sustainably in the digital age.”
Unveiling 3 Core Strategies Towards ASEAN Digital Hub
To achieve the goal of becoming the ASEAN Digital and AI Hub, the government has defined three clear core digital strategies:
- Developing Robust Digital Infrastructure: Focusing on a Cloud First Policy to enhance efficiency and flexibility in data management for both public and private sectors, upgrading public services to digital formats (e-Government) for public convenience, and expanding high-speed internet access nationwide to reduce the digital divide and create equal opportunities for everyone to access digital information and services.
- Building Cybersecurity Resilience: Prioritizing the development of strong cybersecurity laws, standards, and regulatory mechanisms to build trust among citizens and businesses for online transactions and activities, as well as preventing and responding to increasingly complex cyber threats.
- Developing Digital Human Capital: Setting targets to upgrade the digital skills of 10 million citizens, train 90,000 specialized digital personnel, and create 50,000 AI developers within two years to build a sufficient quantity and quality of manpower to drive the country’s digital economy.
Huawei Partners with Chulalongkorn University to Cultivate AI Talent, Strengthening Innovation Ecosystem
In a concrete response to the government’s digital human resource development policy, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) and Chulalongkorn University announced a strategic partnership to drive the creation of an AI innovation ecosystem and sustainable human resource development. This collaboration covers the development of modern ICT infrastructure within the university, joint design and development of curricula related to AI, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Leadership skills. It also includes support for transforming Chulalongkorn University into a fully-fledged Smart Campus in the future.
Professor Dr. Parichat Sthapitanonda, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, commented on this significant collaboration: “This partnership with Huawei reflects Chulalongkorn University’s commitment to being part of driving the digital transformation in the education sector. We recognize the importance of preparing our students and staff with the necessary skills and knowledge for the new economy, which is driven by technology and innovation, especially AI, which will play an increasingly crucial role in the future.”

- Business School for Leaders: Aimed at enhancing the vision and digital leadership of senior executives and future policymakers.
- Technical School for Creators: Focused on in-depth skills training in AI, Cloud, and other emerging technologies for developers and innovators.
- Engineer School for Practitioners: Upgrading practical capabilities and specialized expertise for engineers and technical practitioners.
- Digital Inclusion for Users: Promoting access to digital technology and digital literacy broadly for all segments of the population.
