The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is accelerating its efforts to bring artificial intelligence (AI) to every corner of Thailand. By establishing LEO satellite and WiFi 6E infrastructure, the NBTC aims to enhance the quality of life for Thai people and stimulate massive investment in the communications sector.
clinical professor Sarana Boonbaichaiyapruck, Chairman of the NBTC, announced the vision at the “The Power of AI:New Game, Change the World” seminar. He emphasized that AI will be the key to transforming Thailand’s communications and telecommunications systems. The NBTC is committed to creating equal access to AI for all citizens.

“The NBTC is not just a regulator of AI, but we have an important role in making AI a tool that everyone can access and use equally,” clinical professor Sarana said.
Target of 60,000 Villages
Currently, the NBTC and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) have collaborated to push projects to bring computers and high-speed internet to over 60,000 villages across the country. The ultimate goal is to enable every village to access and utilize AI to its full potential.
AI Revolutionizes Medicine
One clear example of AI application is in the medical field. clinical professor Sarana cited the use of AI in reading CT scan results to diagnose lung diseases, which reduces the diagnosis time to just 5 minutes. In addition, AI is also being used to diagnose other diseases such as eye diseases and tissue examination.
Golden Opportunity for the Communications Business
With over 120 million mobile phone users in Thailand and access to high-speed internet and 5G covering over 90% of the country, Thailand has enormous potential for growth in the communications business. This is especially true when considering the continuously increasing data usage every year.
Clinical professor Sarana believes that AI will be a key tool in developing data traffic and increasing the efficiency of mobile operators’ services.
AI Drives the Thai Economy
In addition to the medical and communications sectors, AI has the potential to elevate and drive the Thai economy in many other areas, including Smart City, Smart Farming, and even Smart Hospital. All of these rely on AI as a key driving mechanism.
