Red Hat has launched its Asia Pacific AI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Singapore to help regional enterprises transition artificial intelligence projects from experimental stages into scalable, production-grade deployments.

Supported by the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the new facility serves as a strategic innovation hub designed to meet surging regional demand for trusted, enterprise-grade AI. The initiative provides organisations with direct access to Red Hat’s open source technologies and engineering capabilities, establishing a structured foundation for deploying machine learning workloads across hybrid cloud environments.

Accelerating Production AI Workflows

The Centre’s engineering operations focus on shifting AI workloads into production environments through two complementary pathways. Teams will develop reusable software architectures tailored to common enterprise challenges while actively contributing code directly to upstream open source projects. This upstream engagement targets operational hurdles in enterprise system deployment, runtime optimisation, and platform management.

Locating these core technical teams in Singapore significantly narrows the feedback loop among regional clients, ecosystem partners, and Red Hat’s primary product engineering units. This proximity grounds Red Hat’s development roadmaps in practical market requirements, expediting joint solution delivery and broadening co-innovation throughout the Asia Pacific region.

Daniel Aw, Vice President and General Manager of Red Hat Asia Pacific, noted that enterprise AI adoption is shifting rapidly toward operational execution, requiring open platforms and hands-on engineering to succeed. He emphasized that backing from the EDB facilitates local growth, while collaboration with public agencies demonstrates how open architectures address complex, mission-critical operations.

Strengthening Regional Skills and Talent

The Singapore facility houses a multidisciplinary innovation unit comprising software engineers, forward-deployed engineers, solution architects, and technical project managers focused on ensuring stable AI and machine learning integrations. The Centre aims to cultivate local engineering talent, reinforcing technical capabilities across the broader regional ecosystem.

Beyond technical deployment, the hub will deliver skills development programs focused on core disciplines essential to enterprise AI architectures. These include software engineering, workflow automation, cloud-native application development, and DevSecOps, enabling regional enterprises and partners to build and retain internal technical expertise.

Yueh Chinn Seah, Vice President of Digital Industry Singapore, highlighted that the Centre deepens the country’s capabilities in enterprise open source AI. The initiative reinforces Singapore’s position as a regional AI hub while equipping local professionals with advanced engineering expertise to scale solutions across Southeast Asia and international markets.

Co-Engineering with Singapore Defence Agency

In a major technical collaboration, the Singapore Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) is partnering with Red Hat to co-develop scalable artificial intelligence and cloud-native architectures. The joint work combines Red Hat’s open source platform capabilities with DSTA’s defence domain expertise to build resilient systems applicable to modern defence environments.

The engineering collaboration encompasses application modernisation, edge computing, and multi-cloud operations. Both entities are establishing shared architectural standards for DevSecOps and Day 2 operational lifecycle management for AI workloads running across both on-premise infrastructure and external cloud platforms.

Gayle Chan, Deputy Chief Executive (Information) at DSTA, stated that the partnership allows the agency to co-engineer and scale cloud-native and AI solutions across diverse operating environments. As security and operational demands evolve, the initiative provides the technical agility required to advance defence capabilities effectively.

Aligned with Singapore’s National AI Strategy, the APAC AI Centre of Excellence establishes an operational framework combining talent development, open source contributions, and real-world deployment across the Asia Pacific market.
