SCG Chemicals (SCGC) has been awarded the CSR Award 2026 by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security for its social initiatives that improve community quality of life and reduce inequality. The recognition highlights the company’s ongoing integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks alongside Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into core operational strategies.
The award was officially presented by Mr. Kantapong Rangsesawang, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and accepted by Dr. Pichet Tangpanyarat, Vice President – Industrial Solutions & Partnership at SCGC.
Strategic Approaches to Community Resilience and Economic Value
SCGC organizes its social initiatives across four central approaches: Education, Occupation and Income Generation, Wellness and Quality of Life, and Transition to a Low-Carbon Society by Adaptation. These pathways are designed to secure long-term outcomes and foster inclusive economic growth across surrounding localities.
Throughout 2025, SCGC partnered with various communities and external stakeholders to deliver social projects involving more than 9,500 participants. These combined efforts yielded over 58 million baht in direct economic value.
The economic value was generated through the systematic development of community enterprises, career training, local market expansion, and community-based procurement programs. These measures provided sustained income generation and reinforced community self-reliance.
Upcycling Marine Materials Through Innovation
Beyond direct economic support, the company applies its materials science and environmental innovation capabilities to drive circular economy projects. A key example is the Nets Up Project, conducted in partnership with local small-scale artisanal fishing groups and the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources.
Through the Nets Up Project, more than 42,000 kilograms of discarded fishing nets were gathered and recycled into Marine Materials. This initiative prevents ocean waste leakage while transforming recovered plastics into functional, value-added industrial resources.
The CSR Award 2026 was organized by the Department of Social Development and Welfare through the Office of the National Social Welfare Promotion Committee. Candidate evaluations follow rigorous criteria, including policy integration, operational embedding of CSR, systematic monitoring, government and community collaboration, and alignment with ISO 26000 guidelines and the SDGs.
