Endurance athletes competing in Nike racing footwear achieved a series of national records, course records, and world championship milestones across major international events in Chicago, Kona, and Melbourne over a single race weekend.
Record-Setting Performances at the Chicago Marathon
The Chicago Marathon served as the stage for three landmark distance-running achievements across international fields. Thailand’s Kieran Tuntivate made his marathon debut wearing the Nike Apex, clocking 2:08:01 to establish a new Thai national record. Tuntivate’s performance reduced the previous national benchmark, which had stood since 2018, by nearly nine minutes.
American distance veteran Galen Rupp also competed in the Nike Apex, registering a time of 2:06:55. The result secured a new American masters marathon record and marked Rupp’s fastest competitive marathon performance since 2021.
In the same race, Mexico’s Jorge Luis Cruz Pérez broke a 31-year-old national record while wearing the Nike Alphafly 4. Cruz Pérez crossed the finish line in 2:08:13, surpassing the previous Mexican standard of 2:08:30 to reset one of the longest-standing records in the country’s athletics history.
World Championship Title at Kona
In endurance multisport, France’s Vincent Luis captured the men’s IRONMAN World Championship title in Kona, Hawaii, recording an overall finish time of 7:47:27. Competing in his Kona debut, Luis utilized the Nike Apex during the decisive marathon leg.
After trailing the frontrunners through the early stages of the run, Luis closed the deficit and moved into the lead near mile 21. He maintained his advantage through the final miles to secure the world championship victory.
Course Record in Melbourne
At the Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival in Australia, Eliud Kipchoge claimed victory while establishing a new event course record. Kipchoge completed the race in 2:09:10, marking his first competitive appearance in the Nike Apex following the model’s official unveil.
The performance added another title to Kipchoge’s competitive distance-running career while setting a new time benchmark for the Australian event. Detailed athlete results, equipment data, and race updates remain accessible through Nike’s official competitive platform at swoosh.racing.
