Happitat, developed by Axtra Happitat Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of CP AXTRA, is setting a new benchmark for destination experiences with the launch of one of Southeast Asia’s largest and highest-resolution indoor digital displays. Spanning 385 square metres with an ultra-fine P1.8 pixel pitch, this massive installation transforms traditional viewing into a dynamic “Magical Canvas”. The official opening takes place on 21 August 2026, introducing high-tech interactive storytelling that allows visitors to step directly into digital worlds.

Designed as a year-round creative platform, the space will host global artists, creators, and brands to present original immersive concepts. The site debuts with two headline attractions: The Butterfly Trail, a Mixed Reality experience created by UK-based Pixel Artworks, and Forest of Time, an interactive production by Germany’s BoraBora Studios. These launches represent the start of an evolving calendar of tech-driven entertainment designed to build deeper emotional connections between brands, stories, and visitors.

Interactive Tech and Phygital Layer at Grand Stairs

At the core of Happitat’s immersive design is the Grand Stairs, a purpose-built architectural space engineered for interactive media. By incorporating a “Phygital Layer,” the venue merges physical architecture with digital graphics, changing passive audience observation into active story participation. The system runs on a real-time rendering engine linked with the P1.8 LED display, enabling screen content to react immediately to audience movements and interactions via smartphones.

“At Happitat, we believe technology creates the greatest value when it connects people with nature, sparks imagination, and brings people closer together,” said Orada Kerdhong, President of Axtra Happitat Co., Ltd. “That is why we do not use technology simply to amaze audiences, but as a medium for creating experiences that invite everyone to participate, engage, and create meaningful memories together. To us, true magic does not happen on the screen—it happens in the moments when people discover, learn, and share experiences with one another.”

This setup offers brand partners a medium for real-time storytelling, replacing one-way messaging with participatory experiences. The physical-digital convergence allows visitors to explore real and virtual environments simultaneously within the same physical venue.

Southeast Asia Debuts for Global Immersive Shows

The launch features the Southeast Asian debut of The Butterfly Trail, following a successful run at Outernet London that drew over 4.1 million interactions in a single month. Developed by Pixel Artworks, the experience guides guests through Professor Pelegrin’s glasshouse, where they use smartphones to release virtual butterflies and launch nectar at chrysalises via augmented reality. For its Thailand debut, the production features native Thai butterfly species found within the venue grounds.

“The Butterfly Trail was created to make people feel as though they have stepped inside the story itself. Happitat’s Grand Stairs provides the ideal stage to bring that vision to life, seamlessly combining space, technology, and storytelling into a truly immersive experience,” said Riaz Farooq, Senior Creative Director of Pixel Artworks. “The opportunity for visitors to immerse themselves in both a real forest environment and a mixed reality adventure within a single visit extends the journey far beyond the screen.”

Complementing this, BoraBora Studios presents Forest of Time, a multi-user experience focusing on ecosystem restoration. Visitors collaborate using smartphones to generate a digital essence that awakens the “Ancient Guardians”—virtual representations of endangered and extinct wildlife from Southeast Asia and across the world. As participants unlock these animals, they build a collective digital archive known as the Forest Codex.

“Forest of Time began with Happitat’s vision of helping people build a meaningful connection with endangered wildlife, because we believe that connection is the first step toward conservation,” explained Florian Woegerer, Founder, CEO, and Creative Technologist of BoraBora Studios. “When people actively participate, have fun, and become part of the story, learning happens naturally. Our hope is that the experience not only sparks curiosity and environmental awareness, but also inspires visitors to protect and preserve the natural world.”

Launch Schedule and Venue Information

The digital displays and featured shows open officially to the public on 21 August 2026 at Happitat. Both The Butterfly Trail and Forest of Time will operate as part of the initial launch phase, with additional world-class immersive productions scheduled to rotate through the space throughout the year.

“From day one, Happitat has been built on the belief that happiness can be designed, and the Grand Stairs is a powerful expression of that philosophy,” added Orada Kerdhong. “We did not create this space simply as a digital display, but as a stage for storytelling and shared experiences. We want the Grand Stairs to remain a living, ever-changing destination that always offers people a reason to return.”
